Sometimes there isn't enough time to discuss everything in a meeting, leaving incomplete talking points. And most meetings have clear takeaways at the end (which may or not be complete by the next instance of the meeting).

To help ensure nothing slips through the cracks, you can set things up so that any incomplete talking points or action items get carried forward. This works the same in meetings and 1-on-1s.

In this article, we'll discuss:

  • How to set up carry forward

  • "Force" carry forward in a note

  • Preferences and settings

How to set up carry forward

To do this click the lightning bolt icon at the top of the note to access automations.

Then select Carry-forward.

Next to both talking points and action items, you'll see a drop down with the following options about when/how you would like to be notified.

  • Always: incomplete talking points and/or action items will always be carried forward to the next note

  • Never: incomplete talking points and/or action items will never be carried forward to future notes

  • Ask me: By selecting "Ask Me", you'll be asked whether or not you want to add these incomplete talking points.

"Force" carry forward in a note

You can force a carry forward by pressing on the three dot drop down in the upper right hand corner of the note and selecting "Carry forward talking points and/or action items".

Carrying forward is in someways like a piggy-back ride, it's a one time carry forward so if you uncheck something later, it won't be reflected retroactively.

Preferences and settings

When setting up carry forward, you'll see the following two toggles:

  • Make carried-forward action items linked copies: this will mean when an action item is checked off after being carried forward, it will be checked off in the past notes as well

  • Include children when carried-forward: any sub-points/indented points will be brought forward along with the main talking point and the indentation will be maintained/.
